Raheem Sterling has agreed to join Chelsea in a £47.5 million move from English Premier League champions, Manchester City.
As THEWILL previously reported, the 27-year-old and the Blues had previously reached an understanding over personal terms, and it was left for Chelsea and City to iron out sign-on fees. He is now expected to ink a five-year deal with a one-year extension option available.
Sterling spoke with Thomas Tuchel, the Chelsea manager, and was impressed with his ambitions for the team. The English striker is anticipated to have a medical in London before joining the Blues, who arrived in America on Saturday, in preparation for the club’s preseason tour.
In his seven years with City, Sterling provided 131 goals in 339 games, earning four Premier League titles, one FA Cup, and three League Cups along the way. He was nevertheless rotated with players like Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Riyad Mahrez, and Gabriel Jesus, which resulted in him playing fewer minutes.
After Erling Haalan and Julian Alvarez arrived, the 27-year-old was going to have even more difficult competition. However, given that current Chelsea forwards Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic have struggled to maintain consistency in the Premier League, Sterling may be among the first names on the squad sheet at Stamford Bridge.
