Stop disrespecting the throne – Och’Idoma warns title holders

The Paramount Ruler of the Idoma Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Agabaidu Elaigwu Odogbo John (Och’Idoma V), has cautioned all traditional title holders against reckless conduct that undermines the dignity of the throne.

The monarch gave the warning on Thursday, during a courtesy visit to His Imperial Majesty, Oba Dr. Victor Adesimbo Kiladejo, JILO III, CFR, Osemawe and Paramount Ruler of Ondo Kingdom.

According to him, titles are not merely symbols of status but sacred responsibilities.

“A title holder who speaks or acts recklessly in public risks desecrating the throne that honoured him,” HRM Agaba’Idu said. “Only through decorum, humility, and disciplined behaviour can any title holder remain worthy of the distinction bestowed upon him.”

His comment came a few days after a former deputy governor of Benue State, Engr Benson Abounu, a title holder, openly criticised the Och’Idoma over refusal to bow to idols.

The Och’Idoma, however, said a title holder must always conduct himself in public with the utmost dignity, wisdom, and restraint.

He said, “A title is a sacred trust that comes with blessings and responsibilities. A title holder must always conduct himself in public with the utmost dignity, wisdom, and restraint.”
