‘Stop seeking media attention, focus on your political future’ — FCTA aide slams Obi
Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has criticised Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, urging him to stop seeking media attention and concentrate on his political future.
Olayinka said the FCT administration under Wike is implementing tangible development projects, contrasting it with what he described as the “beer parlour-style development” allegedly run by Obi in Anambra State during his eight-year tenure as governor.
The official highlighted that 73 schools are currently undergoing renovation across the six area councils of the FCT, with 21 already completed. He also stated that 102 contracts have been awarded for school renovations, underlining the administration’s commitment to improving education.
Reacting to Obi’s recent visit to LEA Primary School in Kuje, Abuja, where the former presidential candidate described the poor state of public schools as a “national disgrace,” Olayinka insisted that the Wike led FCTA is actively addressing infrastructural gaps in schools.
Olayinka challenged Obi to account for the number of schools he reportedly built or renovated during his governorship, accusing him of failing to invest in critical sectors such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure in Anambra. He claimed that Obi allegedly hoarded state funds in personal accounts instead of using them for development projects.
Mocking Obi’s assertion that he could transform Nigeria in four years, Olayinka said the former governor did not achieve similar progress in Anambra in eight years. He described Obi as an “internally displaced politician” who now relies on media appearances for relevance and questioned under which party he plans to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Olayinka concluded that Obi’s media engagements are laughable, noting that no political platform or party backing appears to support his ambitions for the next general election.
