Academic activities at Western Delta University in Oghara, Delta State, were briefly interrupted on Thursday when suspected armed robbers invaded the campus.
It was gathered that the intruders accessed the university through an unfenced perimeter at the back, with the intention of robbing students.
Alert students quickly raised the alarm and sought refuge in nearby areas.
Law enforcement agents responded promptly, preventing any casualties or major disruptions. The invaders reportedly fled upon seeing the security personnel.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident, stating, “The suspected robbers entered through the broken fence at the back of the school, but the police responded swiftly and they fled.”
A student leader at the university, Simeon Okpoko, remarked, “The incident underscores ongoing security challenges facing educational institutions and highlights the importance of vigilant security measures to safeguard students and staff alike.”
In response, the university management is enhancing security measures to prevent future incidents and ensure the safety of the university community.
