SUBEB: Gov Alia pledges support for Benue teachers

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has pledged to maintain his commitment to providing comprehensive and timely support to educators.

This support will encompass enhanced remuneration, engaging workshops, and training sessions aimed at arming teachers with contemporary skills and methodologies, thereby enhancing their effectiveness in the classroom.

The governor made this assurance on Friday during the inauguration of projects completed within the initial 100 days of Dr. Grace Adagba’s tenure as the chairperson of the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

Furthermore, Governor Alia has committed to the renovation and modernization of selected public schools across Benue State, with the aim of fostering a conducive learning atmosphere for students. He also expressed his administration’s readiness to revitalize school supervision mechanisms, ensuring optimal service delivery.

During the project commissioning ceremony held at the SUBEB Headquarters in Makurdi, the governor commended Dr. Grace Adagba and her team for their significant achievements within a short timeframe. He reiterated his unwavering support to them, emphasizing the importance of attracting further developmental strides within the education sector of Benue State.

Governor Alia further approved the construction of a multi-story building at the SUBEB Headquarters in Makurdi to address the challenge of office space inadequacy. Additionally, he directed the immediate installation of a 33KV transformer at the board’s premises.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Grace Adagba expressed gratitude to Governor Alia for his indispensable support, which played a pivotal role in their accomplishments. She highlighted various initiatives made possible by the governor’s assistance, including the automation of the staff payroll system, infrastructure upgrades such as the remodeling of the SUBEB gate, installation of solar lights, and provision of essential amenities such as a motorized borehole. Additionally, new departments were established, internet services were extended within the SUBEB premises, and the chairman’s office was furnished.

Other notable speakers at the event included Brenda Atii, representing the State Coordinator of Universal Basic Education Commission, Levi Akuma, the state chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), and Mary Otor, a pupil from Holy Ghost Primary School, Makurdi.
