Sunday School leaders from the Universal Reformed Christian Church, URCC, abbreviated as NKST in Tiv, today commended Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, for some of the initiatives of his administration.
This came on the heels of the Governor’s appeal to striking staff of some tertiary institutions in the state to suspend their strike and reopen the schools.
The group made the commendation when they visited the Governor at the Benue Peoples House.
Leader of the delegation and Sunday School Director, Reverend Peter Atsua, expressed appreciation to God for the achievements inspite of the dwindling economic fortunes of the country.
“The Governor has achieved reasonable peace through the amnesty programme and scored excellent marks in restoring dignity of labour by paying arrears of salaries of civil servants,” Rev Tsua stated.
“This government has also revamped our erstwhile dysfunctional educational and professional institutions like Benue State Schools of Nursing and Midwifery and the Medical School of the Benue State University.”
Governor Ortom stated that those on strike were unfair to him by demanding for what he didn’t owe, in the face of financial challenges and his efforts to clear arrears and pay salaries.
He said his administration has exhibited transparency in the management of the finances of the state by involving union leaders in disbursement for the first time in the history of the state.
The group announced the selection of the Governor as patron of the organisation and invited him for investiture on third January, 2016 at NKST Anber in Katsina-Ala local government area.
Governor Ortom accepted the position and promised to make himself available for the ceremony even as he commended the group for engaging thousands of youths in the church and raising them in the fear of God.
He reiterated his pledge to partner with the church to accelerate the pace of development in the state particularly in the areas of education, health care delivery and agriculture.
