The Godswil Akpabio International Stadium, nestled in Uyo, has been designated as the esteemed venue for all of the Super Eagles’ home fixtures throughout the arduous journey of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Marking a significant moment in Nigerian football, this announcement was made by the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) during a momentous visit to Uyo, where he engaged with Akwa Ibom Governor, Umo Eno.
With a seating capacity to accommodate 30,000 fervent supporters, the hallowed grounds of the Godswil Akpabio Stadium will also host the crowning fixture of the Super Eagles’ 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign. On Sunday, September 10, 2023, the stadium will witness the electrifying clash between the Super Eagles and Sao Tome and Principe, as the quest for continental glory reaches its pinnacle.
This is not the first time that the Godswil Akpabio Stadium has risen to the occasion. In the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, it played host to all of the Super Eagles’ home matches, becoming a sanctuary for the team’s aspirations.
Looking ahead to the intense battles that lie ahead, the first two rounds of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers are scheduled to unfold between November 13 and 21. The Super Eagles find themselves positioned in Group D, in the company of formidable opponents such as South Africa, Benin Republic, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, and Lesotho.
The victors of this closely contested group will earn the coveted ticket to the grand stage of the 2026 World Cup, an event set to unfold across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
