Super Eagles defender Bright Esieme is dead

Former Super Eagles and Enugu Rangers Int’l FC defender, Bright Essieme, has passed away at the age of 32 after a brief illness, as confirmed by his brother, Osimiri Esieme.

Essieme was a pivotal member of Rangers’ Premier League-winning squad in 2016, showcasing his talent and dedication on the field.

In January 2014, he earned a spot in the Nigeria 23-man team for the 2014 African Nations Championship in South Africa under coach Stephen Keshi. He played a crucial role in helping the team secure a third-place finish by defeating Zimbabwe with a goal to nil.

Having begun his career with ABS FC, Essieme received his first invitation to the Super Eagles squad in January 2014, subsequently making it to the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2014 in South Africa.

Known for his versatility, Essieme displayed his skills in various positions throughout his career. He notably filled in as a left-back against Mozambique in the absence of the injured Benjamin Francis and excelled as a holding midfielder in the team’s final match against South Africa.

Throughout his career, Essieme played for renowned Nigeria Premier Football League sides such as Enyimba FC, Niger Tornadoes, Warri Wolves, Enugu Rangers, and ABS FC.

Bright Essieme hailed from Obingwa local council in Abia State, leaving behind a legacy of commitment and excellence in Nigerian football.
