Stoke City have rewarded Nigerian midfielder John Obi Mikel with a one-year contract extension for his contribution to their campaign in the outgone season.
The 34-year-old midfielder will remain at the Bet365 Stadium until the end of the 2021-22 campaign having joined them as a free agent after parting ways with Turkish side Trabzonspor last year.
Mikel made 40 appearances for the Potters, creating an assist in the process and helping them finish 14th with 60 points on the league table.
The former Premier League club confirmed the development on their official website with defender James Chester also staying at the club for another year. The statement on Stoke website reads:
“Meanwhile, contract extensions have been activated to retain the services of defender James Chester and midfielder John Obi Mikel.”
