The Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated their Zambian (The Chipolopolos) counterpart to book a place in the semifinals of the African Cup of Nations tagged, Angola 2010.
The match was a balance game in the first 45 minutes while the ball traveled from end to the other. The Chipolopolos looked stronger in the second half, thereby threatening the Super Eagles but could not find the back of the net.
90 minutes,it was still goalless-draw and 30 minutes was added for extra time, yet it was still deadlock. The pressure became stronger when Nigeria’s central defender, Apam was red-carded after being booked for the second time in the game in the 107th minute, leaving the battling Eagles with ten men. The Eagles did just enough to push the game into the penalty shoot out.
Fears griped many when Chelsae mid-fielder, John Mikel Obi was chosen to play the first penalty for the Eagle, and he scored without disappointing his team, Vincent Enyeama who was hero of the day stooped the shot of a nervous looking Thomas Nyirenda, and Enyeama slashed the last shot inside the net to push Eagles to the Semi-finals’ stage to battle the ever-ready Ghana (Eagles won 5-4)
