Super Falcons ranked 32nd in latest FIFA ranking

In the latest release of the FIFA Coca-Cola women’s world ranking, Nigeria’s Super Falcons have made a significant leap of eight places, securing the 32nd position. The updated rankings were unveiled on Friday and are now available on the official website of the global football governing body.

This impressive advancement in the rankings can be attributed to the Super Falcons’ commendable performance at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, hosted in Australia and New Zealand. Despite their initial placement as the lowest-ranked team in Group B, which included formidable opponents like Australia, Canada, and the Republic of Ireland, the Falcons exhibited exceptional gameplay, securing a second-place finish to advance to the round of 16.

Regrettably, the team’s journey ended in the first knockout stage against England, with a 4-2 loss in the penalty shootout after a goalless 120 minutes of play. Nevertheless, the Falcons’ performance during the tournament earned them the 10th best team ranking upon its conclusion.

Remarkably, tournament debutants Morocco emerged as one of the revelations, making it to the round of 16 and rising an impressive 14 spots to claim the 58th rank. Among Africa’s other two representatives in the tournament, South Africa ascended nine positions to 45th, and Zambia climbed to 69th.

Sweden, securing a third-place finish, has ascended to the top spot for the first time in history, dethroning the USA, which has now slid to the third position.
