A man, who allegedly specialises in burgling phone shops, Junior Osareme, has narrowly escaped being burnt alive by angry Agbor youths in the Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The suspect, alongside two others, who are still at large, were alleged to have burgled a phone shop on Obi Ikenchuku Road, Agbor, aroud 1am on Sunday.

It was gathered that the suspect narrowly escaped death as he suffered deep machete cuts on his head by the youth, who were determined to lynch him before he was rescued.

Source told our correspondent that the intervention of a community leader in the area and the member representing Ika South State Constituency in the state House of Assembly, Festus Okoh, saved the situation.

The source said, “The man was caught, while two of his gang members escaped. So, the youth were angry, because a lot of shops have been burgled in the area; they beat him and put a tyre on his neck and were ready to burn him alive.

“It was the community’s youth leader, who called Okoh to rescue the suspect from being lynched by the mob before he was handed over to the police.”

The suspect was arrested by the police and is receiving treatment at a government-owned hospital in Agbor.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the incident, adding that the suspect was still in hospital.
