Operatives of the Ogun State Security Network, known as Amotekun, have arrested a 35-year-old man, Obi Emmanuel, for alleged involvement in illegal drug trafficking in the Yewa North Local Government Area.

Emmanuel was apprehended around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday in front of a chemist shop in Ayetoro, following credible intelligence provided by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Ogun State.

According to a statement signed by the Director of Intelligence and Investigation, Shodeke Sholanke, the arrest was the result of a coordinated operation based on surveillance and tip-offs regarding Emmanuel’s suspected drug activities.

Sholanke disclosed that Emmanuel had recruited a commercial driver, identified as Alausa, to transport hard drugs from Abeokuta to Ayetoro. The driver, who operated an 18-seater Mazda bus, was intercepted and arrested by NDLEA officers on Wednesday along the Abeokuta–Ayetoro road. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed that the illicit items belonged to Emmanuel.

“The arrest came after the NDLEA received credible intelligence indicating Emmanuel was behind drug transactions in the region.

The commercial driver involved is currently in NDLEA custody,” the statement read.

“Following the driver’s confession, Amotekun operatives, acting on further intelligence, swiftly moved in and apprehended Emmanuel.”

Emmanuel has since been handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The Amotekun Corps urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity, reaffirming its continued partnership with the NDLEA to combat drug trafficking and protect communities across the state.

“This operation highlights our ongoing commitment to purging criminal elements involved in drug-related crimes from society,” the statement concluded.
