Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen have killed two persons in Golkofa village, Godogodo Chiefdom, in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Thursday.
The Kaduna State Police Command confirmed the death of the two victims.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Aliyu Usman, who confirmed the killings, said it was true that two persons were killed but countered the report, which said the police deserted the area.
Reacting to the Thursday attack on Golkofa, the police spokesperson said, “It is true and I can confirm that two people were killed in Golkofa. But it is not true that there are no police presence there. I have been in touch with Kafanchan area commander and he has assured me that there are police vehicles in these villages. But we cannot be on every man’s farm. If you doubt me, go to the villages and find out by yourself.”
A community leader, who spoke under condition of anonymity, said the herdsmen suddenly invaded the village and shot sporadically. Later, the residents discovered that Taru Mamman (60) and Batet Jonathan (35) died during the attack.

According to him, those who saw the assailants while escaping said they were herdsmen.
In a related development, another six-year-old girl, Ruth Daniel, a primary one pupil from Ningon Gari, in Gwantu Village, has died of gunshot injuries she sustained after suspected herdsmen invaded her village on August 21, 2016, our correspondent gathered on Friday.
A source said that when the gunmen invaded the village last month, they shot the little girl in the belly. She was rushed to a nearby hospital in Kafanchan but died on Thursday.
The source said, “The night they (gunmen) came, they shot at everywhere and she was hit in the belly. Her intestine came out and she was rushed to the Kafanchan General Hospital. The Local Government Chairman had said he would help but no assistance came. So, she died yesterday (Thursday).”
