A devastating incident unfolded in Ore, Ondo state, resulting in the loss of at least twenty lives, including that of a pregnant woman and three children. The heart-wrenching tragedy occurred when a fuel-laden tanker exploded along Showboy road, opposite Optima filling station, on a fateful Sunday evening.
According to reports, the driver lost control of the tanker, causing it to spill its volatile contents onto the road. Despite the danger, some individuals began to scoop fuel from the fallen tanker. Tragically, disaster struck when a spark from a phone ignited the spilled fuel, triggering a massive explosion.
An eyewitness, identified as Cyriacus, shared a harrowing account of the incident. He mentioned that warnings from the church pastor did not deter people from attempting to collect fuel. As the rain fell, tragedy unfolded, claiming the lives of three innocent children and over 15 other individuals. Among the victims was a pregnant woman who had come to purchase fuel.
The local authorities, including the state Police Public Relations Officer Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the heart-wrenching incident and stated that the victims were fuel scoopers. An investigation into the matter has been initiated to understand the circumstances that led to such a devastating outcome.
