Taye Ajoke, a National Diploma student at Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic, Lafia, who was kidnapped on Monday, has thankfully been released by her abductors. The abductors, after a ransom of N300,000 was paid, released Ajoke, who was held captive after armed assailants attacked her residence and forcefully took her to an undisclosed location.
The attack, marked by gunfire and chaos, occurred at her residence in Ombi 1, a location merely two kilometers away from the Polytechnic. Sadly, the incident also resulted in two other students and an admission seeker sustaining bullet wounds.
Ekom Ayaka, the President of the Students Union Government of the polytechnic, revealed that the kidnappers initially demanded a staggering N50 million ransom. However, they later reduced their demand to N500,000 when it became apparent that the initial sum was beyond the reach of Ajoke’s family and well-wishers.
After continuous appeals for a further reduction in the ransom, the kidnappers agreed to release Ajoke upon the payment of N300,000, providing a glimpse of relief for her family and the entire student community.
“We are grateful to God that Ajoke has been released by the bandits. She was released around 7 pm on Wednesday after a ransom of N300,000 was paid,” said Ayaka.
