Teen fatally shot dead at high school football game in Choctaw, Oklahoma

A harrowing incident unfolded in Choctaw, Oklahoma, as a 16-year-old male lost his life in a shooting during a high school football game on Friday. In the aftermath, at least three others sustained injuries, according to a statement released by the police on Saturday.

Remarkably, the victim was not associated with either Choctaw or Del City High Schools, the educational institutions engaged in the match. Choctaw Police Chief Kelly Marshall confirmed this detail.

The exact location of the victim’s passing remained unspecified, whether it occurred on-site or later at the hospital.

While no arrests have been reported thus far, law enforcement authorities are actively investigating a person of interest linked to the case.

According to Marshall, the tragic event was believed to have stemmed from an argument between two male individuals, escalating to the point of the fatal shooting. Law enforcement recovered two firearms and eight rounds at the scene.

Chaos erupted at approximately 10:15 p.m. on Friday, at Bill Jensen Field in Choctaw High School, as gunshots reverberated through the air. Players and spectators alike scrambled to seek refuge from the unforeseen violence.

One 42-year-old male sustained a gunshot wound near his chest and underwent surgery at a nearby University of Oklahoma hospital, where he is now in stable condition.

A young female was also injured, treated for a thigh wound, and subsequently released from medical care. Additionally, two individuals who fled the scene suffered broken bones.

Reacting to the incident, Oklahoma State Superintendent Ryan Walters issued a statement condemning the violence and emphasizing the need for swift justice.

During the incident, two off-duty Del City officers, providing security for the team, were present. One of them discharged their weapon, as confirmed by Del City Police Chief Loyd Berger.

Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt expressed his firm stance against violence and extended gratitude to the officers who acted promptly to save lives. He reassured that his office is in close communication with law enforcement agencies, including the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety, to monitor the ongoing situation closely.
