An 18-year-old herder has been shot dead at Kafigana in Jebu District of Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday evening.
The State Chairman of Gan Allah Fulani Development Association of Nigeria (GAFDAN), Garba Abdullahi Muhammed, who confirmed the development, told Daily Trust that the deceased was killed while rearing cattle in the area.
He said: “He was just going about his normal rearing when the gunmen stormed the area and shot him dead. They shot him in the neck. For how long herders would be killed in this manner without committing any offence? They kill our cattle and herders at will. More than twenty cattle were killed just this month.
“We have already informed the Divisional Police Headquarters in Bassa. The deceased was evacuated with the police. We call on security to as a matter of urgency call to order those perpetrating this kind of dastardly act. We can not just be killed without any protection, ” the chairman added.
Contacted the spokesman of the State police command, Ubah Gabriel, confirmed the incident, adding that investigation was ongoing to arrest the perpetrators of the attack.
Both Fulani and Irigwe ethnic groups often blamed each other for the several attacks and killings in the villages of Bassa LGA.
