In a remarkable cinematic achievement, Paramount Pictures’ animated masterpiece, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,” has officially crossed the $100 million mark at the box office. Directed by the talented Jeff Rowe, this epic animated adventure has now become the 18th film of 2023 to achieve this monumental milestone.
The brainchild of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, who collaborated on the screenplay alongside Jeff Rowe, Dan Hernandez, and Benji Samit, “Mutant Mayhem” boasts a stellar cast of young, emerging talents voicing the beloved heroic reptiles. The quartet of rising stars includes Micah Abbey as Donatello, Shamon Brown Jr. as Michelangelo, Nicolas Cantu as Leonardo, and Brady Noon as Raphael. The film also features an ensemble of renowned voices, including the legendary Jackie Chan, the iconic Ice Cube, Ayo Edebiri, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Paul Rudd, and Seth Rogen himself, among others.
Distinguished by its unique street-level portrayal of the iconic characters, reminiscent of the summer blockbuster “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” “Mutant Mayhem” made its grand debut on August 2nd with an impressive $43.1 million in its inaugural week. Although it initially secured fourth place with $28 million over the weekend, the film faced limited family-friendly competition, enabling it to maintain a strong presence throughout the month and gradually accumulate the funds necessary to surpass the remarkable $100 million mark.
It’s worth noting that “Mutant Mayhem” marks the third “Ninja Turtles” film to achieve this domestic box office milestone, following in the footsteps of the 1990 classic, which grossed $135.3 million, and the 2014 Michael Bay-produced live-action spectacle, also distributed by Paramount Pictures, which remains the franchise’s highest-grossing film with an impressive $191 million.
As “Mutant Mayhem” makes its digital debut, its fifth week in theaters may see changes in its ranking, but this phenomenal achievement will undoubtedly leave an indelible mark on the world of animated cinema
