Tems’ Grammy victory is historic – Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has described Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, as a history-maker following her Grammy win.
In a congratulatory message on Monday, Sanwo-Olu praised Tems for her exceptional talent and dedication, stating that her achievement was a proud moment for Nigeria.
Tems won the Best African Music Performance award at the 67th Grammy Awards on Sunday night for her song Love Me JeJe.
Reacting on his X handle, Sanwo-Olu wrote:
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Temilade Openiyi @temsbaby for winning the Best African Music Performance at the 2025 Grammy Awards with her song Love Me JeJe.
“This historic achievement makes her the first Nigerian artist to win in this category, highlighting her extraordinary talent and hard work.”
He also applauded other Nigerian nominees, including Burna Boy, Yemi Alade, Asake, Wizkid, and Davido, for their contributions to the global music scene.
“Your artistry continues to elevate Nigeria’s presence on the world stage, and we are immensely proud of your accomplishments,” he added.
