EKO HOT BLOG gathered that the Archbishop was last seen on Friday when he set out on a journey to Umuchu, a community in the state. Since then, neither he nor his driver has been heard from, sparking fears of possible abduction.
A prayer alert issued on Saturday by the Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Ndubuisi Obi, called for intercessory prayers for the Archbishop’s safe return.
The statement reads:
“With a deeply burdened heart, we inform you of the distressing news that our revered Father in God, Most Rev. Prof. Godwin Okpala, has been missing since yesterday morning.
He embarked on a journey to Umuchu accompanied by his driver but, unfortunately, never arrived at his destination.
There has been no communication since, and their whereabouts remain unknown.
We earnestly plead for your fervent prayers for their safety and swift return. The relevant authorities have been contacted, and we trust in God’s divine intervention for a positive resolution. Let us continue to intercede for their safe recovery.”
When contacted, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, stated that he was unaware of the situation.
The incident comes amid a surge in activities by unknown gunmen in the state, raising concerns over safety and security.
