There was tension in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital on Thursday when some hoodlums suspected to be political thugs attacked the Secretariat of the Ekiti chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The building located at Ajiosun Area along Ado-Ikere road in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital was vandalised in the early hours of the day with some facilities destroyed in the process.
The Nation gathered the arm-wielding hoodlums stormed the party’s Secretariat around 8:55am, destroyed furniture, files and smashed all the glass windows and windows with machetes.
It was learnt that the attack, which forced staff of the Secretariat to scamper to safety, caused panic among residents of the area.
When contacted, Ekiti Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Abutu, confirmed the incident.
He added that men of the Command had been drafted to the area to forestall any further breakdown of law and order.
The PPRO, who said no suspect had been arrested in connection with attack, noted that the Command had commenced full blown investigations to unravel the brains behind the dastardly act.
Ex-Governor Ayodele Fayose condemned the incident, calling on the security agencies to fish out and prosecute the perpetrators of the unprovoked attack and their sponsors.
Fayose, in a statement on Thursday, which he personally signed, said it was strange and ridiculous that anyone in Ekiti could still engage in such criminal act.
“My attention has just been drawn to the attack on the People’s Democractic Party (PDP) Secretariat in Ekiti State by two unknown thugs.
“The police must unravel those behind it and be made to face the full wrath of the law.
“And to those behind this, they are reminded that nobody knows the end of violence and nobody has monopoly of violence too. They must be careful not to attempt it any further.
“This will be the last time such will happen to any PDP facility or our members in Ekiti and those agents of violence and sponsors wherever they may be is hereby warned.
“Those who are already smelling defeat should be honest and decent enough to accept it rather than embarking on violent attack against the party secretariat.
“On this one, we have taken the hint and we won’t be intimidated by cowards.”
