In the aftermath of a violent altercation between students of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in Ijagun, Ogun state, and the local community, the atmosphere remains charged with unease.
According to reports from the Punch, the community has been left in a state of abandonment following the Sunday morning outbreak of violence.
The university administration has responded by declaring the immediate closure of the institution and urging students to return home until tranquility is restored.
Confirming the incident, Dapo Oke, the registrar of TASUED, revealed that the clash occurred between a group of students residing in the Imaweje community adjacent to the school and the community residents.
He stated, “In light of the recent clash between students and members of the University Host Community early this morning, particularly in the Iwameje community, which resulted in violent unrest, the University Management has made the decision to shut down the university.”
“Meanwhile, parents and guardians are advised to promptly retrieve their wards, especially those residing in and around Iwameje, and bring them back home.”
“Collaborative efforts are being made with law enforcement agencies to restore peace and order in the affected community.”
