Tension in Benue as suspected Fulani Herdsmen attack Jato Aka, kill soldiers, five others

Residents of Jato Aka town in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State were thrown into panic on Tuesday after armed men suspected to be Fulani herdsmen launched a deadly attack on the community.

According to sources familiar with the incident, the attack, which occurred on the afternoon of March 19, claimed the lives of seven people, including two security personnel.

It was gathered that the assailants ambushed a team of Nigerian Army officers who were on a rescue mission to secure the release of individuals abducted at the outskirts of Jato Aka. During the assault, two soldiers were killed, while several others sustained injuries.

One of the injured army personnel is currently receiving treatment at NKST Hospital in Jato Aka, while another officer remains missing.
