Tension in Makurdi as mob burns suspected motorcycle snatcher

Tension enveloped Gyado Villa area of Makurdi, Benue State, on Thursday morning after a suspected motorcycle snatcher was lynched and set ablaze by an irate mob.

The incident reportedly occurred shortly after the suspect was caught during an alleged attempt to snatch a motorcycle.

Eyewitnesses said residents overpowered the suspect before the situation degenerated into mob action.

Sources disclosed that two other suspects believed to be accomplices escaped from the scene in a vehicle suspected to have been used for the operation.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies were yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

Residents have since expressed concern over the rising cases of street crime in the area, while also warning against the dangers and consequences of mob justice.
