German goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen has inked a fresh five-year contract with La Liga champions Barcelona, cementing his association with the club until the summer of 2028. The new agreement encompasses a substantial buyout clause set at 500 million Euros.
The official signing ceremony took place on Friday at the Spotify Camp Nou office, attended by Barcelona’s president Joan Laporta, vice president Rafa Yuste, economic vice president Eduard Romeu, board member Joan Soler, and sporting director Anderson Luis de Souza ‘Deco’.
Ter Stegen’s journey with Barcelona began when he made the transition from Bundesliga outfit Monchengladbach in the summer of 2014. Now in his 10th season with the club, he was a pivotal part of the Blaugrana’s historic treble victory in 2014/15.
In an interview with BARCA TV, Ter Stegen expressed his aspiration for more successes with the club, stating, “I hope over the next five years, we can win more trophies. Yeah, we are competitive, I think we are trying to be competitive these days. We just started the league and it’s a long way to go till the end of the season to win trophies.”
Having participated in two La Liga matches for Barcelona this season, Ter Stegen’s commitment and skill continue to be pivotal for the team. As of matchday two, Barcelona currently holds the sixth position on the La Liga table with four points.
