‘The Guy’: M.I Abaga releases new hit album

Jude Lemfani Abaga known by his pop culture name M.I Abaga has released his first album since he launched his record label, “the incredible music”. ‘The Guy’ brings the number of M.I’s solo albums to a septet.

M.I. has been the cornerstone of African Hip-hop since he rose to prominence in 2006 with his song, “Crowd Mentality”. He has referred to himself as Nigeria hip-hop’s messiah, this claim remains undisputed as he keeps delivering sleek flows with a lot of punchlines, rendering Nigerians, rap songs as brilliant as the likes of Jay-Z, Nas and Eminem.

The industrious rapper is also a singer, songwriter and record producer. As the spine that has held Nigeria’s hip-hop scene for a long time, he usually drops lyrical criticism on the budding artist of the Nigerian music industry. Using songs like “You Rappers Should fix up Your Lives” to caution their straying paths.

This thematic constitutes less than one-third of his songs as he has a lot of lyrical content dependent on the exposure of mental health issues and their consequences for young adults. Through his lyrics, he invokes rappers and society to self-introspection.

“The Guy” LP has a total of 12 tracks, featuring such sublime artists as Black-American veteran rapper Nas, Wande Coal, Jesse Jagz, Chillz, Ossi Grace, Duncan Mighty, BNXN, Olamide, Phyno, Ice Prince, The Caveman, Tomi Owo and Lord Vino.

With tracks like, “The Guy” and “The Hate” on the album, he reclaims his throne in the rap world and reminds other artists of his never-ending supremacy, just like Eminem did in “Rap God”.

Other tracks on the album revolve around issues like societal pressure on the male psyche, dysfunctional societal interaction, especially on social media and the adulation of the African female sexual aura.
