The people of Palestine are being subjected to a myriad of challenges that have considerably affected their day-to-day lives, well-being, and future prospects. It’s for this reason that many charities globally have established a Palestine Appeal, wherein generous individuals can donate with the specific mission of assisting those in Palestine in mind. Palestine is one region in which the need is greater than ever, which is why so many individuals are keen to do what they can to help Palestinians. To that end, detailed below are just some of the challenges being faced by Palestinians today for which they need our help.
Gender Inequality
Firstly, gender inequality continues to take hold in Palestine. This isn’t to say that we’ve seen zero progress over the last few years, but we have a long way to go before women are considered equal to men in Palestine. For instance, women are often placed on a back foot in regard to decision-making processes, employment opportunities, and education access. This is down to the widespread adoption of traditional values, in which women aren’t facilitated in their pursuit of professional and personal goals. As a result, female empowerment is a key factor in eliminating the issues being faced by Palestinians today.
Housing and Infrastructure
Unfortunately, substandard housing and infrastructure are extremely common across the Palestinian region, meaning the people often don’t have the best living conditions. This is especially true of refugee camps, where overcrowding is the norm, and people have no choice but to live in these inadequate conditions. What’s more, the absence of proper infrastructure, like sewage systems, electricity, and roads, makes it increasingly difficult to lead a quality life and invest in economic development. Ultimately, the people of Palestine will struggle to elevate themselves from poor living conditions if infrastructure isn’t seriously improved.
Resource and Water Scarcity
While the entire region of Palestine is struggling with water scarcity, the West Bank and Gaza have an especially limited access to clean water. It goes without saying that an absence of clean water results in dehydration, a lack of sanitation, agricultural struggles, and can even have deadly effects. Not only are Palestinians surely to fall ill from a lack of water, but they can also contract illnesses from drinking water that’s unclean. In fact, the consumption of unclean water can lead to a number of infections that can result in death. This is especially true in developing countries where healthcare isn’t properly funded and individuals are already malnourished, leaving their immune system vulnerable.
Healthcare and Education
The people of Palestine are also unable to access healthcare and education to the point that they should be able to. Hospitals and schools alike are typically under-resourced, meaning the medical treatment and education available is severely affected. For instance, Palestinians are often unable to access life-saving healthcare due to a lack of available funding. As a result, people often lose their lives to curable diseases as they don’t have the resources available to fight them. Meanwhile, children are often placed into overcrowded classrooms with a huge lack of educational materials, meaning they struggle to obtain a quality education.
Economic Struggles
Finally, Palestinians are constantly having to face economic challenges that leave them without the financial means to live comfortably. The region is absent of job opportunities, resulting in limited resources and restricted movement. This serious lack of job opportunities means that unemployment rates are high, which leaves people without financial stability, making it very difficult to elevate themselves from trying situations. Moreover, this hardship isn’t short-term, and Palestinians are often forced to endure it for their entire lives.
