Alhaji Shettima Yerima, the National Leader of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), has expressed concerns about the political transformation of President Bola Tinubu, referring to him as a “pro-democracy activist” who has seemingly evolved while occupying the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Yerima, who was once a Youth Director of the political pressure group NADECO, actively involved in the struggle against the late General Sani Abacha’s military junta in the early 90s, highlighted that some pro-democracy activists who once joined forces with President Tinubu now harbor reservations about his current policies.
In particular, he cast doubt on President Tinubu’s appointments, which appear to favor older figures over the youth. Yerima also expressed concerns about the influence of the “Aso Rock Cabal” in the current administration.
Yerima urged President Tinubu to learn from the past and avoid allowing himself to be dominated by individuals who may not have the nation’s best interests at heart.
He reflected on the hope that President Tinubu would not follow in the footsteps of his predecessor, and instead, work towards positively impacting the nation during his presidency. Yerima further emphasized that this government is a product of the collective struggle of many individuals and should, therefore, meet the expectations of the people.
The AYCF leader encouraged President Tinubu to be mindful of the advisors and associates he surrounds himself with, referencing the experiences of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who was believed to be influenced by certain individuals during his presidency from 2015 to 2023.
