The prevailing security challenges in Okpokwu LGA

On 28th July 2019, at about 12noon, two groups of armed hoodlums clashed in Okpokwu LGA. This clash was between a group of armed hoodlums from Okpoga and others from Ollo communities. The clash resulted to severe gun battle which lasted till the early hours of 29th July 2019. The battle claimed a life of one of the gangs from Okpoga and the corpse has been handled over to the police at Ugbokolo police station at the time of filling this report.

Following the prompt response from the policemen, in collaboration with local government Caretaker Chairperson, Hon. Amina Audu, one of the notorious hoodlums has been arrested, and now in the police custody at the police Divisional Headquarter, in Ugbokolo. However, investigation still continue by the policemen.

Worth mentioning is the prompt response and commitment by the Care-taker Chairperson of Okpokwu LGA council. “She reiterated that Okpokwu LGA cannot be turned into theatre of war. That people living together for centuries cannot turn against each other”.

The matter has been formally reported to the Area Command office in Otukpa, Ogbadibo Local Government Area, Benue State. However, the situation is now under control and normacy has been restored in affected areas.
