Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom says the gruesome murder of elder brother to Senator Gabriel Suswam, Dr. Terkura Suswam is an open declaration of war on people of Sankera by criminal elements.
Governor Ortom who spoke today during a condolence visit to the family of the deceased in Makurdi described the incident as devastating, saying he was shocked when he received the sad news in far away Port Harcourt, Rivers State yesterday.
He noted that it was unthinkable for someone who had sacrificed his comfort and that of his family in the urban area to live in the village in order to add value to the development and security of his community to be gunned down in such manner.
Governor Ortom stated that the deceased was a peacemaker and a friend who, despite political differences, never allowed anything to destroy their relationship.
While praying for the peaceful repose of soul of the deceased and for God to grant the bereaved family fortitude to bear the loss, Governor Ortom said the State security council would ensure the assailants are apprehended and brought to book.
Representative of the family, Dr Jem Tor Anyiin said the unfortunate incident had devastated and left them in a state of confusion, stressing that the situation at home was worse.
He stated that they had been in touch with the Church at home and Senator Gabriel Suswam as to the burial arrangements, adding that they were consoled by the Governor’s timely visit.
