The Benue State Emergency Management Agency said it has began evaluation of Internally Displaced Persons from Taraba and Nasarawa states who are camping at Gbajimba, Guma Local Government Area of the State.
Some farming communities in the two states have come under heavy attacks by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen militias who many have accused of ethnic annihilation.
Leading the exercise, the Executive Secretary, Benue State Emergency Management Agency, (SEMA), Dr. Emmanuel Shior said, the assessment was directed by Governor Samuel Ortom to arrive at Indigenes of Taraba and Nasarawa States who are recently displaced by the Fulani Herdsmen.
Correspondent gathered that, Mr. Shior also noted that Benue State Government will mobilize distribution of relief materials to the IDPs, adding that the Governor is collaborating his Taraba and Nasarawa to bring lasting solution to the security challenges within the neighbouring states.
Governor Samuel Ortom had called on Federal Government, NGO and other spirited individuals to intervene in the humanitarian crisis in the state.
While requesting the Federal Government to provide security for IDPs to return, the governor said over 1 million people were displaced and leaving in various IDPs in the state.
