A fully loaded tanker conveying Premium Motor Spirit, (PMS) popularly known as Petrol, on Wednesday morning exploded at Mubi town in Adamawa State, killing at least six people.
The explosion incident occurred at a Petrol station near Gela-Cameron border town. Some of the victims were reportedly burnt beyond recognition.
An eyewitness and resident of the town, Mallam Musa Kazaure told newsmen that corpses of the deceased, mostly charred beyond recognition have been deposited at the General Hospital Mubi morgue.
Another eyewitness who preferred to be identified as Mallam Haliru said several other persons with various levels of burns and injuries were receiving treatment at the same hospital.
“I have a shop near the Petrol station. I saw it happen. I saw nothing less than six corpses. They were carried in body bags to the mortuary this morning. Some of the bodies were burnt beyond recognition”.
Other sources said the inferno was cumbersome to put out because there seem to be Petroleum products loaded in jerrycans around the petrol station at the time of the unfortunate incident.
Some residents also said officials of the Fire Service had a hard time accessing the area due to the bad state of the roads.
