Thugs invade election of Igede First Class Chief

By James Ibechi
The selection of Adirahu’Igede as alowed by the officials of the Bureau for LG and Chieftaincy Affairs to extend into deep night must have precipitated the ground for thugs who had been on the prowl to invade it.
The election/selection of the first class chief was postponed indefinitely without expressed reason, and no sooner was it put off than the thugs mmediately bulldozed their way into the Guest House venue of the election in a commando fashion and locked up the Bureau officials who were conducting the poll.
The thugs insisted that the election must be condcuted in the night.
Before the thugs invaded the scene, the contest had already been narrowed down to between two contestants, Prof. Johnson Ona and Mr. Ogah Ero. They all hail from Ujeh.

It was not clear whose interest or bidding the thugs were doing. But it was shameful because the selection of the royal fathers was supposed to be purely a traditonal affair devoid of politics.
Politicization of the process of the selection was at the root of the ugly development in the night.
