Tiger Woods has undergone surgery after rupturing his Achilles tendon during training at home, casting doubt on his participation in next month’s Masters.

The 15-time major champion has not provided a timeline for his recovery, but with the tournament set to begin on April 10, his return to Augusta appears uncertain.

Woods, 49, had been targeting a comeback at the Masters, having not competed in a PGA Tour event since last July.

“As I began ramping up my training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was later confirmed as a rupture,” Woods said.

On Tuesday morning, Dr. Charlton Stucken at the Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida, performed a minimally invasive procedure to repair the tendon.

Dr. Stucken confirmed that the surgery “went smoothly” and expressed confidence in Woods making a full recovery.

Woods last played a PGA Tour event at The Open at Royal Troon in July 2024 and underwent his sixth back procedure in September. He had planned to return at the Genesis Invitational in February but withdrew following the death of his mother, Kultida.

His injury also rules him out of the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass, which begins on Thursday.
