Tight security at National Assembly as Tinubu prepares to present 2025 budget
There is a heavy security presence at the National Assembly complex ahead of President Ahmed Tinubu’s presentation of the 2025 budget to a joint session of lawmakers.
As of 8:00 am, senators and members of the House of Representatives began arriving at the Green Chamber for the joint session.
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) had approved an estimated expenditure of N47.96 trillion for the 2025 fiscal year on Monday.
In preparation for the event, security agencies have reinforced security at the complex. All business operations, including banks and food vendors, have been shut down by the National Assembly management.
Nonessential staff and visitors have been instructed to stay home until after the budget presentation. Only essential staff with accreditation and a limited number of reporters will be allowed to attend.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, are set to preside over the joint session.
