TikTok deletes 2.1 million Nigerian videos in Q2 2024

TikTok removed over 2.1 million videos in Nigeria during the second quarter of 2024 for violating its community guidelines.

According to the Community Guidelines Enforcement Report shared on Tuesday, the move is part of the platform’s ongoing efforts to enhance content moderation and ensure user safety.

The report highlighted that 99.1% of the videos were proactively removed before any user complaints, with 90.7% taken down within 24 hours. This demonstrates TikTok’s commitment to curbing harmful content and maintaining a safer platform for Nigerian users.

The videos removed represent less than 1% of the total uploads in Nigeria during the period.

Globally, TikTok said it removed over 178 million videos in June 2024, with 144 million removals done through automated systems. The company reported a proactive detection rate of 98.2% worldwide, showcasing improvements in content moderation.

TikTok reiterated its commitment to investing in technologies that enhance moderation and reduce potential risks. The platform also emphasized its dedication to transparency and user safety, both in Nigeria and globally.
