Tina Bawa: Portrait of a home builder, strong advocate of grassroots evangelism

Rt. Rev. (Mrs.) Tina Bawa-Shitgurum made history as the First Apostolic Female Bishop in Nigeria on September 16, 2017, when she was consecrated by the College of Bishops of the International Communion of Charismatic Churches (ICCC) led by the Prelate, His Eminence, Archbishop Kirby Clements and the 2nd Prelate, Her Eminence, Archbishop Margaret Benson-Idahosa. Before then and up till now, she has been an exemplary worker in the Lord’s Vineyard.

Since her entry into ministry in 1999, she has grown remarkably, founding the Tina Bawa Ministries International Inc (which has enabled her to take Apostolic message across Africa, Europe and America), the annual Extraordinary Woman Conference, started in 2001 (now renowned as a capacity-building and value-orientation forum for the modern Christian woman) and organising life-changing, impacting programs including the Movement to Eden Series, Stand by Your Man Prayer Summit, WHITE Worship (Worship Him In The Evening) and the recently introduced Home Finishing Academy (HOFA), a training program for the married and young ladies aspiring to marry.

The multi-faceted minister, a strong advocate of grassroots evangelism, preaches a pragmatic approach to Christianity. Notably, she has been an advocate of charity as the most effective means of demonstrating the love of Christ. Women of Compassion, a charity outreach of hers provides basic necessities for the needy including food, education, shelter and medical access.

Her quality as an experienced teacher is reflected in her writing. She has authored eight books, including the best-selling The Extraordinary Woman. Her 2006 book, Unveiling the African Woman is a seminal resource for gender policymakers in Africa.
A gender advocate and a national prayer leader, she combines both roles in equal measure, as the coordinator of Nigeria Woman Awake (NIWA) organisation and convener of Extraordinary Women Fellowship International, which she founded in 1999.

Bishop Bawa-Shitgurum’s impressive curriculum vitae. A certified member of the Canadian Institute of Christian Counsellors (CICC), she has a pastoral degree from Pan African Christian University, Abuja, a bachelor’s degree in Business and Management Study and Microsoft System Engineer (M.C.S.E) certification.

Her standing as a successful entrepreneur is reflected by her current corporate positions as President, Duncan International Cargo Express Ltd., of a highly successful shipping and logistics company, Vice President, Duncan Group of Companies, in addition to being the chairperson on several organizations and businesses.

Married to business magnate, Dr. Godfrey Bawa-Shitgurum (MON), their marriage of over 28 years is blessed with three biological children and tens of thousands of youths who have adopted the minister as mother and mentor. Today, Rt. Rev. (Mrs.) Tina Bawa-Shitgurum’s place as a leader in the Lord’s Vineyard is globally acknowledged.
