Tinubu, Akpabio, Mark, Damagun, others commiserate with Abba Moro over son, grandson’s deaths
The Abuja residence of the Senate Minority Leader and Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District, Comrade Abba Moro, PhD, was on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, filled with dignitaries, colleagues, and sympathisers who visited to condole with him over the tragic deaths of his son, Peter Moro, and grandson, Abba Moro Jr.
Leading the delegation of the 10th National Assembly, the President of the Senate, His Excellency, Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON, expressed the collective grief of the Senate and the entire National Assembly. Senator Akpabio described Senator Moro as a stabilising force and a national figure, noting that his loss was deeply felt by colleagues and Nigerians at large.
The Senate President lamented the painful nature of the tragedy and urged Senator Moro to take solace in the faith that his departed loved ones had gone to rest with their Creator.
Commenting on reports that the fatal accident was caused by stray cows, Senator Akpabio called for urgent measures to remove cattle from highways and promote ranching. He stressed that the death of Peter Moro should mark the end of such preventable tragedies in the country.
Accompanying the Senate President were the Deputy Senate President, Senator Jibrin Barau; Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele; and several senators and members of the House of Representatives.
In his remarks, the Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Umar Illya Damagun, said he received the news of the double tragedy with great shock.
He conveyed the condolences of the PDP family to Senator Moro, urging him to remain strong in faith while praying for the repose of the souls of the departed.
Other dignitaries and associates also visited to sympathise with the bereaved senator.
In his response, Senator Moro expressed profound gratitude to the Senate President, members of the National Assembly, the PDP leadership, and all sympathisers who reached out to him and his family.
He said their presence and words of comfort gave him strength during this difficult period, praying that God would reward them all abundantly.
Meanwhile, President and Commander-in-Chief, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR; former Senate President, Senator David Mark; and Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, also extended their heartfelt condolences to Senator Moro and his family.
They shared in his grief and prayed for divine comfort and fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.
