Tinubu commissions Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks in Abuja

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has lauded the Nigerian Armed Forces as the nation’s heroes, reaffirming his administration’s unwavering commitment to their welfare and operational support.

The President made these remarks on Thursday while inaugurating the newly constructed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks and other facilities under the Nigerian Army Special Projects in Abuja.

“You are our heroes, and I thank you for what you have been doing for this country,” Tinubu stated, expressing deep gratitude for their service. He highlighted the critical role of the military in safeguarding Nigeria and reiterated the government’s resolve to prioritize their welfare. “The only way to appreciate you is to continue to show support to the men and women in uniform,” he added.

The newly commissioned barracks aim to address acute housing shortages faced by personnel of the Army Headquarters and other units in Abuja. Completed on January 9, 2025, the project was initiated on November 26, 2022, under Major General Philip Eromosele and funded during the tenure of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja. It was completed under the leadership of the current Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede.

The barracks boast the following facilities:

  • Accommodation:
    • 16 Major General Quarters
    • 34 Brigadier General Quarters
    • 60 Major-Colonel Flats
    • 60 Lieutenant-Captain Flats
    • 180 Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Flats
    • 264 Corporal-and-Below Flats
  • Worship centers, sports facilities, a powerhouse, and a secure perimeter fence with three entry and exit gates.

Earlier in the day, Tinubu performed the groundbreaking ceremony for a new Armed Forces Complex behind Lungi Barracks in Asokoro, Abuja. The complex is expected to enhance the operational and administrative efficiency of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

Tinubu emphasized the critical role of troop welfare in achieving operational success. “Knowing that the federal government is always ready to provide what the troops need is essential for winning battles. It is your welfare we are not going to compromise,” the President assured.

The high-profile event was attended by:

  • National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu
  • Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila
