Tinubu Committed to Enhancing Citizens’ Welfare, Says Okonjo-Iweala • Vows to Support Nigeria Amid Challenges • Meets with President in Aso Rock
Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), affirmed that President Bola Tinubu is dedicated to advancing the well-being of Nigerians.
As the head of WTO, Okonjo-Iweala, along with her team, also expressed their commitment to providing assistance to Nigeria during these challenging times.
Okonjo-Iweala made these statements during her conversation with State House correspondents after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Joined by former Minister of State for Health, Mohammed Ali Pate, Okonjo-Iweala noted that their discussion centered on measures to support Nigeria. They deliberated on grassroots programs aimed at aiding young people and women.
The WTO DG emphasized their intent to explore assistance for sectors like agriculture, textiles, and pharmaceuticals, as well as digital trade to boost job creation.
During the visit, Okonjo-Iweala explained, “We want to help them in digital trade, so they can create more jobs. We saw the President and the focus was on how do we support Nigerians at this time of need.”
She clarified that her visit wasn’t an official WTO mission but rather a quiet engagement. The aim was to discuss ways to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians, particularly focusing on community and grassroots initiatives that could generate employment for the youth and provide support to women and children facing challenges.
Long-term investment opportunities, including the potential for Nigeria’s pharmaceutical industry, were also part of the conversation for the country’s future development.
