President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday conferred the prestigious national honor of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The honor was presented during the Nigeria-India Bilateral Meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. President Tinubu stated that the award symbolizes Nigeria’s deep appreciation and commitment to strengthening its partnership with India.
Explaining the significance of the visit, Tinubu said, “Nigeria values its excellent relationship with India, and we are committed to deepening and broadening our collaboration for the mutual benefit of our two countries. You represent a strong commitment to democratic values and norms. Winning three consecutive elections in a complex society is a remarkable feat that we greatly respect.”
He continued, “I am honored to confer upon you, Prime Minister of India, the Grand Commander of the Order of Niger. This award underscores Nigeria’s appreciation and commitment to its enduring partnership with India.”
In response, Prime Minister Modi expressed his gratitude for the recognition and extended his sympathies to Nigeria over the devastating floods that recently affected several cities, including Maiduguri. To support Nigeria’s ongoing humanitarian efforts, he announced the provision of 20 tons of relief materials.
Modi reaffirmed India’s dedication to fostering a stronger partnership with Nigeria and supporting its developmental and humanitarian goals.
