Tinubu donates salaries to injured soldiers, families of fallen heroes
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pledged to donate his salaries to support military personnel wounded in active service, as well as the families of fallen heroes.
The President also approved the creation of a special intervention fund aimed at providing sustained assistance to those affected.
He made the announcement on Sunday to mark his 74th birthday, using the occasion to recognise the bravery, sacrifice, and dedication of members of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
As part of the initiative, Tinubu directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to open a dedicated account that will cater to injured service members, alongside widows, widowers, and children of deceased personnel.
In a personal show of commitment, the President pledged to channel all his earnings since assuming office into the fund as seed capital, underscoring his determination to ensure that those who have paid the price for the nation’s peace and security are not neglected.
He further appealed to state governors, lawmakers, private sector players, associates, and other well-meaning Nigerians to contribute to the initiative, adding that full details of the fund will be unveiled in due course.
Tinubu stressed that the move reflects a national responsibility to support those who risk their lives for the country, as well as their families, regardless of existing insurance schemes available to military personnel.
He added that caring for members of the Armed Forces should not be seen as charity, but a collective duty.
The President also reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to improve the welfare of military personnel and ensure their service is rewarded with dignity, care, and long-term support.
