Tinubu has already lost 2027 election – Aisha Yesufu boasts
A frontline human rights activist, Aisha Yesufu, has criticised the political strategy of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, alleging that the president is relying on the support of state governors to project political strength.
Yesufu made the remark on Thursday while speaking on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television.
According to her, the growing political alignment of governors with the president is aimed at creating what she described as an “illusion of power,” insisting that such backing does not necessarily translate to victory at the polls.
She cited the experience of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which once controlled more than 20 states but still lost a presidential election despite its strong presence among governors.
“Yes, Bola Tinubu has already lost. That’s why he is looking for governors that he would put together to have an illusion of power,” she said during the programme.
The activist also questioned the level of grassroots support for the ruling party, pointing to what she described as low public enthusiasm during recent political mobilisation efforts.
She added that emerging political platforms such as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) appear to be attracting increasing attention and passion from Nigerians.
