President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Mr. Michael Ango as the acting Chairman of the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS).
Mr. Anthony Ogunleye, Director of Press at the Office of the FCT Minister, announced the appointment in a statement released on Friday in Abuja. According to Ogunleye, Ango’s appointment is anticipated to strengthen and expand the revenue base of the FCT-IRS.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ango will succeed Mr. Haruna Abdullahi, who has served as the acting head of the FCT-IRS for nearly three years.
Ogunleye noted that Ango brings over 20 years of experience in both the public and private sectors, with a strong track record of excellence and innovation in revenue collection and management.
“Given his extensive experience and proven success in revenue administration, financial management, and organizational leadership, Ango is expected to significantly enhance the performance of the service,” Ogunleye said.
Ango, a native of Kebbi State, holds a Master of Law degree from Columbia University School of Law in New York, obtained in 2019, and a Bachelor of Law degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, obtained in 2002. He completed his legal education at the Nigerian Law School in 2003 and attended the Harvard Kennedy School of Government’s Executive Education program in Comparative Tax Policy and Administration in 2013.
He is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and the International Association of Privacy Professionals, among other professional bodies.
As the acting Chairman of the FCT-IRS, Ango will be responsible for implementing strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing revenue generation, improving taxpayer compliance, and streamlining operations to ensure greater efficiency and effectiveness. His appointment comes at a critical time as the FCT-IRS seeks to broaden its revenue base and achieve fiscal sustainability.
