Tinubu mourns Arise TV anchor Somtochukwu killed in Abuja
President Bola Tinubu has expressed shock and sadness over the killing of Ms. Somtochukwu ‘Sommie’ Maduagwu, a journalist with Arise News Television, who was murdered during a robbery attack at her residence in Katampe, Abuja.
In a statement on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Maduagwu’s death as a painful loss to her family, colleagues, and the Nigerian media fraternity.
“Ms. Maduagwu was a promising professional journalist whose life was cut short in a cruel and condemnable manner,” the statement read.
Tinubu directed security and law enforcement agencies to launch a thorough investigation into the incident and ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice without delay.
The President also commiserated with the bereaved family, the management and staff of Arise News Television, and the wider media community, assuring them that his administration remains committed to protecting the lives and property of all Nigerians.
He further emphasized that his government would continue to strengthen security measures aimed at combating crime in every part of the country.
Idoma Voice reports that the 29-year-old news anchor was killed in the early hours of Monday following an armed robbery attack at her Katampe residence.
