The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will proceed with its national convention scheduled for March 29–30, stressing that reconciliation efforts among aggrieved members will continue even after the exercise.

Wike expressed optimism that the party would stage a strong comeback in the 2027 general elections, saying the PDP would “shock Nigerians” with its performance.

He also dismissed a Supreme Court appeal by a group led by Tanimu Turaki, insisting that the legal move would not affect the convention.

Speaking on Friday night after inspecting the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome, venue of the convention in Abuja, Wike noted that resolving internal disagreements within the party is a continuous process.

“There is room for accommodation. The PDP is a very large party. Look at the umbrella; it is wide enough to accommodate everyone,” he said.

According to him, grievances are inevitable in any large political structure, but the party leadership remains committed to dialogue.

“In any group, there will be disagreements. You cannot expect everyone to be satisfied in a party with millions of members. We will sit down with those who are unhappy, understand their concerns, and see how they can be accommodated. What matters most is the overall interest of the party,” Wike added.

On zoning, the minister confirmed that key positions have been shared across regions to ensure balance.

“The presidency has been zoned to the South, while the chairmanship goes to the North. This consensus arrangement will make the process smoother,” he said, adding that the party is presenting a unified front rather than a divisive “unity list.”

Wike further disclosed that preparations for the convention were almost complete.

“We are about 95 percent ready. Seating arrangements for all states have been concluded, and the VIP section is set. We do not expect more than 2,500 delegates,” he said.

The convention is scheduled to hold in Abuja on Sunday and Monday.
