President Bola Tinubu has returned to Abuja after he participated in the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
According to Idoma Voice, the President was warmly received at the airport by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesome Wike, and Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, among other dignitaries.
During the conference, President Tinubu represented Nigeria, emphasizing the country’s positions on key thematic issues such as renewable energy, Carbon Market Activation, and climate financing.
The President played a pivotal role in the signing of an accelerated performance agreement between Nigeria and Germany, aiming to fast-track the implementation of the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI) for the enhancement of Nigeria’s electricity supply.
President Tinubu also hosted a significant meeting with stakeholders and investors to discuss the Nigeria Carbon Market and the Electric Buses Rollout Programme on the sidelines of the COP28 climate summit.
During this event, the President unveiled the Nigeria Carbon Market Activation Plan, co-chaired by Zacch Adedeji, the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), and Dr. Dahiru Salisu, the Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC).
In addition to his active participation in the conference, President Tinubu engaged in bilateral talks with the President of the UAE and held discussions with leaders from various countries and multilateral partners to strengthen collaborative efforts.
