The focus of his speech will revolve around crucial global issues including climate change, curbing illicit financial flows, and promoting the repatriation of assets to Nigeria to enhance international collaboration.
The information was made public through a statement released by Francisca Omayuli, the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, on Monday. Apart from these key topics, Tinubu will shed light on Nigeria’s relentless efforts to achieve the Strategic Development Goals (SDGs) and contribute to international peace and security.
Omayuli highlighted that the High-Level segment of the 78th UNGA kicks off today, Tuesday, 19th September 2023, with the General Debate, where Heads of State will present their addresses. The General Debate is set under the presidency of Mr. Dennis Francis of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
The overarching theme of this year’s 78th Session is “Rebuilding Trust and Reigniting Global Solidarity: Accelerating Action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) towards Peace, Prosperity, Progress, and Solidarity for all.”
In addition to the General Debate, Nigeria is anticipated to participate in various meetings throughout the High-Level week actively, showcasing its leadership. These include the Preparatory Ministerial Meeting for the Summit of the Future, the High-Level Political Forum on SDGs, Climate Ambition Summit, High-Level Meeting on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response, and other significant events focusing on health, finance, and nuclear disarmament.
