President Bola Tinubu briefly lost his footing on Tuesday during a ceremonial reception in Ankara, Turkey, where he is on a state visit focused on boosting diplomatic and economic ties between the two countries.

Footage circulating online captured the moment the President stumbled slightly while walking beside Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during a formal march-past held in his honour at the Ankara parade ground.

The President appeared to misstep but was quickly supported by officials close by, enabling him to steady himself and proceed with the ceremony without interruption.

Eyewitnesses said the incident caused only a momentary distraction, as the event continued seamlessly afterward.

Tinubu’s trip to Turkey is part of efforts to reinforce the long-established friendly relationship between Nigeria and Turkey, while also identifying fresh avenues for collaboration.

The Presidency disclosed that the visit will include top-level discussions between Tinubu and Erdoğan covering areas such as trade, security, investment, and regional partnerships.

The two leaders are also scheduled to oversee the signing of multiple memoranda of understanding aimed at strengthening bilateral and diplomatic cooperation.

In addition, a Nigeria–Turkey Business Forum is planned on the sidelines of the visit to bring together investors from both countries and promote new opportunities for shared economic development.

Members of the Nigerian delegation accompanying the President include the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN); the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake; and the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd).
